01 May 2013 : BSHC AGM - Wednesday 22nd May 7:30pm

Dear member,

Please be advised that the Bishop’s Stortford Hockey Club AGM has been scheduled for Wednesday 22nd May 2013 at 7:30pm.

In preparation for this, nomination forms for the Club Officers have been put up on the hockey notice board in the Charles Edward Pavilion, including descriptions for what each role entails. If you are interested in taking on a role for the club for next season, please can you put your details up against the relevant role. Remember, the club is run solely by volunteers and we require willing members to take on some of these jobs to ensure the club can operate efficiently and effectively.
Please note: Only those roles on the nomination form will be voted at the AGM, but if you wish to be considered for any of the other roles within the club, then please let us know accordingly!

As some members may not be at the Club House until the AGM on 22nd May, we're accepting nominations by email. Please download the following documents, review the roles and complete the relevant section of the nomination form in regards to the position you wish to stand for and email to Simon Murphy (spud747@btconnect.com) or Paula Frenzel (paulafrenzel@hotmail.com) by midnight 14th May 2013.

26 Apr 2013 : BSHC enters Stortford Carnival on 22nd June and needs your help!!!

Dear Club Member,

BSHC have decided to enter the Bishop’s Stortford Carnival this year on Saturday 22nd June and we need your help!!

The club will be entering the parade alongside other local sports clubs and charities and intend to have a float with a large following of players and supporters of all ages. This has been a hugely successful event for other sports clubs over the years, not least the rugby club and would be a great opportunity for BSHC to show the local community what we are doing and how great we are!!!

Following the parade, we will have a pitch set up at the fun day on Sworders Field where we will have a shooting hockey game set up and an area where we can hopefully talk to the local community and get more people interested in the sport and the club.

It all sounds great, but it only works if you make it work!! The committee will arrange everything from the float to the pitch, but the real impact comes from the number of people we manage to get following our float on the day!! Therefore, please can you let either Gregg (Gregg.pettit@hotmail.co.uk) or Jemma (smithers_54@yahoo.co.uk) know if you and/or your children would like to be involved and can join our parade on the day. The parade starts at 12:15 and lasts about 45 minutes.

This really is a great opportunity for the club and I hope that you will support it!

Kind Regards,

Gregg Pettit and Jemma Smith

12 Mar 2013 : Disciplinary Fines for 2012/13 season
Dear all,

This year, the club committee decided that following the tragic death of James Kew, the club would support James’ favourite charity
Action Duchenne for the 2012/13 season by donating fines from players receiving cards through the year. Furthermore, the club committee agreed that however much is "raised" from these fines, the club will match this once again.

Fines in all senior matches this season are on the following scale:

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a severe and progressive muscle wasting disease for which there is no cure. Young people living with Duchenne experience a gradual loss of muscle function including in the heart that without specialist care will lead to early death in late teens. The genetic cause was finally identified in 1987 as a fault in the dystrophin gene on the x chromosome. This results in the loss of a key protein in muscle cells that leads to cell death and deteriorating muscle function. However better medical care over the last 10 years is resulting in the extension of life expectancy. Early use of corticosteroids, ventilation and heart drugs is leading to young men currently living past 30. New genetic treatments are now being trialled that could well lead to future improved life expectancy and quality of life. Action Duchenne needs your help to keep these improvements on track until we find a cure.

11 Mar 2013 : BSHC AND THE ICENI WATER HOCKEY GRASSROOTS GIVEAWAY
Dear all,

We as Bishop's Stortford Hockey Club, have signed up for the Iceni Water Grassroots Giveaway, which rewards hockey clubs for collecting the labels from bottles of Iceni water with free training equipment and we need your help to make it happen!!

The Giveaway has been set up by England Hockey in association with Iceni Water. Recognising that hockey clubs are coming under growing pressure from increasing costs, the programme has been designed to be suitably achievable and affordable. Clubs will need to collect the following number of Iceni water bottle labels in return for the hockey training equipment.
  • 5 Iceni labels in return for 10 hockey cones
  • 15 Iceni labels for a box of 6 hockey balls
  • 20 Iceni labels for 10 hockey bibs

Iceni Water is also offering the hockey club that collects and redeems the most Iceni labels the chance for their team to visit Bisham Abbey - the home of the GB & England hockey teams - to see some of the country’s top players train, followed by lunch with one of the stars of the national team.

We will put a collection box in the clubhouse for you to put your labels in, or you can pass them to either Gregg Pettit or Jemma Smith for collection. All sizes of bottle labels count, so please do help where you can!!

SO PLEASE HELP YOUR CLUB BY COLLECTING LABELS FROM ICENI WATER BOTTLES!!!!!

13 Jul 2012 : Sponsorship
Dear  ##firstname##,

As the new season approaches there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes to make sure that we are ready.

We are about to order a complete new set of shirts for every team in the club, Tubby has spent a lot of time and effort in getting us the best deal, which means that we have an opportunity to get new sponsors.

The cost of sponsoring a team for the year will be £500 which will get the company’s logo printed on the shirt and a web link put onto our website. Please have a think and see if you can find anybody you know or work for who would be willing to sponsor a team. This can be anyone from your Dad to the Boss you’ve never really liked!!!!

If you do find a sponsor please email me, simonmurphy22@btconnect.com with the details and which team they wish to sponsor.

We also have an opportunity for companies to go into our handbook and website; this will cost £100 for a year.

All the money raised from sponsorship goes towards to running costs of the club, paying for Coaches, equipment etc etc.

We will need to have any sponsorship sorted out by early August in order to have the shirts and hand book ready in time for the new season.

Good Luck

Simon Murphy
